Navigating Currents Berlin: where we’re heading

If you want to support emerging talent during the festival, the premiere of seetech x currents should be at the top of your list. For the first time, the Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin is launching its new seetech label, showcasing exemplary work from its prototyping labs and alumni to highlight how academic research evolves into real-world design.

Another highlight for student work is a joint exhibition between UdK Berlin’s Product Design program, HfG Karlsruhe, and HBK Saar. Students from all three universities will showcase a mix of semester projects and thesis work.

This exhibition explores the very origins of design through one of humanity’s fundamental need: storage. Conceived by Martina Dimitrova, the exhibition brings together well-loved storage objects, and their everyday contents, pulled directly from the personal lives of local architects, artists, craftspeople, and designers. Conceived by designers Luisa Kahlfeldt and Christina Looshorn in collaboration with office brand Lintex, this exhibition showcases bag designs by Berlin-based creatives. Looking beyond the finished product, the show explores the creative process behind each piece.

Artist and architect Thilo Reich presents Urban Tissue, a sculptural exhibition exploring time, identity, and material memory at the Bundesstiftung Bauakademie. Running concurrently with Berlin Art Week and Currents Berlin, the show transforms urban surfaces and raw materials into poetic reflections on impermanence and human presence.

Design duo Corinna Gratzl and Julia Klass (In Search Of) and Verlag Form host the launch of the book “Dialog Beyond Disciplines,” paired with a panel discussion on open-disciplinary ways of thinking and working in contemporary design. Hosted at communication agency Bureau N (which is also supporting Currents with public relations), the talk brings together the book's authors alongside several featured contributors.
